Instructions On SearchingUse the % sign as a wild card in any field. For example, if you are searching for a given name beginning with Jas, type Jas%. If you want to look for all children born to particular parents enter a % sign in the Given Name(s) field and then enter the parents names in their respective fields. Placing [a-k]% in the First name field will return all individuals whose name begins with one of the letters between a and k. If there are a lot of entries that match this criteria it may take a long time for the page to load. To view ALL entries consecutively leave the fields blank and press the search button. When the database grows this feature will be removed. A search for Thomas will retrieve all those individuals whose name was Thomas only. A search for Thomas% will return those who had other given names after Thomas. A search for %Thomas% will return all individuals who had Thomas as a first or subsequent given name. My ancestors name is George Wilson Potts. A search for George will not return his name but a search for George% or %George% will. They will also return all George, Georgette, etc. A search for George Wilson will return only those individuals with those exact given names. |
