What an appealing looking web page. I haven't had a chance to look around yet but it looks wonderful. I've been researching the Potts family for 10 years. I'm descended from Sanual Potts, born 1789 in PA and died 1847 in Perryville, KY. He was a leather tanner and his descendants all left Perryville after his death. Would love to hear from others.

The RATHGEN family of Papanui, Christchurch, New Zealand, is linked to the township of BURG in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. In 1890 my grandfather, Eduard Heinrich RATHJEN arrived at Lyttelton, New Zealand from Germany. His family is related by direct descent to the resident RATHJEN families of HOMFELD, near INNIEN, SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN.

I have a family history book published entitled "Going Well: a history of the Papanui Rathgen's" published 1997. The text is also available on disk.

Email me at this address for further information.

My family is related to the Starritt Rathjen family of Victoria, Australia.

We are NOT related to the RATHJEN/RATHGEN families of Halswell, Canterbury, New Zealand who came from SCHLESSEL, Lower Saxony, Germany about 1860.

But I can give some limited information about them and further addresses of those members.

Please ask.

Jason, now that I am retired I have some  time to do some "digging" into my family  history. Perhaps this can be a starting point for a search for my mother's family.   My mother was adopted around the age of five (around 1916). Her birth name was  Lena Potts, born in Vermillion County, Illinois, in or around Georgetown. In  1947, her adopted father tried unsuccessfully to discover more information through an attorney in Danville, Illinois. My mother and father are deceased. I  would like to re-initiate the search for her family. Any help will be appreciated.

I am a g.grandson of William Henry Potts, b.1843 in Belfast from the Potts line involved in the British P.O, shipping, and ownership of the "Saunders News-Letter" published in Dublin till c.1874. W.H.Potts emigrated to Victoria in 1861 and after 2-3 yrs, to NZ, spending time in Otago, West Coast, and finally settling in Thames (North Island). W.H.P. had four daughters and 3 sons. The first son married and had four daughters, the second died unmarried at Gallipoli, the 3rd did not marry so the surname of the line died out here, but there are many descendants from the females including Jeannie Ferris, my half sister who is now a senator for South Australia.

Hi All;
Due to the magnificent efforts of Jason Potts and his Web Site and all of the greater Potts followers, I have very successfully discovered the ancestors of my Wife's Potts family. I thank Richard Derber for replying months ago to my posting with a great deal of information linking my wife to Thomas Potts of the 'Shield', Son of Richard Potts and Anna Ash of Derbyshire England. Thus finding that Richard Derber is her 4th cousin by their GG Grandfathers being brothers, thanks Cousin Richard! This information that Richard supplied to us is much the same as Jason now has on his Web Site for all to download on "England to USA", Richard and Anna Ashe Potts. I wish to link up with other Decendents of Richard Potts and Anna Ash and trade ancestral relationships thus exploding this ancestral tree. We know of our direct ancesters to Richard and Anna with only a few branches off of it here and there. I do however have information that lists siblings dating back to 1600. With the help of all we can find each other and all end up with many more Cousins.

Special Thanks to All;

My name is Phillip James POTTS and my father was James Watson POTTS born 1896 in Northumberland,England. His father was John Chambers POTTS, probably from the area of the England / Scotland border. Their family lived in the Newcastle Upon Tyne area...
Of interest to some POTTS families, did you know there is a small settlement in NEVADA named POTTS. It showed on old maps pre 1960 and was an old Indian settlement... I welcome any contact of possible distant cousins...

I submitted a search to Alta Vista using "Starritt" as the string and was surprised to find not only a John Starritt but Martha Gregg with matching birth dates to my ancestors. With Family scattered around the UK, I am more than interested in this excellent resource.

What can I say, Fantastic. Your layout is very "user friendly" and clear. You have done a great job on this. Now I know how to contact a few long distant, and far away friends. All the best to all your family for 1997.

Greetings Jason,
I don't believe we have met - at least not for 20 years or so! I am John, son of Harold. My wife's name is Elizabeth, and my childrens' names are Jessica and Georgina. Congratulations on setting this up - most impressive. Please give my regards to your mother and father when you see them next. My brother Noel is with me as I type this. I believe you met him recently at the reunion/wedding anniversary. He sends his regards.
Best wishes,

Nice job on the site! I come from the English Potts, my father has all the info going back to 1400-1600, but he has some holes to fill so I'll be back. Want to see a Brand New Potts?

Hello. My name is Jim Duthie, a 4th generation oldest son of Andrew Duthie, who emigrated to America from Aberdeen, Scotland in the 1870's. Numerous Duthies have branched out from the U.K. to Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the U.S. Some married into the Potts family. Anyone have some information they'd like to share?

Hi all;
HAPPY NEW YEAR
We have a Nelson Potts on my wife's side of our family. He was her Great Great Grandfather. He married Margaret Vaught, and they had 9 children, one of which was Owen Potts, my wifes Great Grandfather. Any help with going back further than Nelson Potts would be greatly appreciated. I do have the names of there other 8 children.
