Help!! I am trying to find information on my grandfather's family. My gradfather was Frederick (Fred) Potts. He was born Jan 30 ?1913 in Macclesfield to Fred (?Frederick) and Rose Potts. He had two older sisters - Rose and Lily. all three chlidren were baptised in Macclesfield in 1915. They were orphaned as children - the girls went to live with a Mrs Fisher and my grandfather apparently was sent to an orphanage where he sang for Dame Nellie Melba. He moved to Australia in his early teens.

We have absolutely no more information available to us. Any help would be appreciated.

I am on a very frustrating search for the ancestors of my Great-Great-Grandfather Henry Potts, born Pennsylvania about 1803. He married Sarah McGregor in Brown County Ohio in 1832 and I can trace him from there. I can find nothing on his parents, grandparents, etc. According to the USCensus for Brown County OH in 1850, he was born in Pennsylvania--no idea of town or county. Can't seem to do anything but hit brick walls on this search. Can you suggest anything?

I,ve hit the wall on this one and have been here for years. I have good info back to this point.

My Grandfather Samuel Scott Potts, b. 2 sept. 1893, Harrisonville, Mo.,married first wife, Bissie B. Shrech,5 feb. 1902, he died, 3 july, 1940 in and is buried in Craig, Colo.

His father: Samuel Potts ,b.26 feb. 1830, in Perryville, Ky. married Nancy Jane Sheets, (b. 19 sept. 1830)on 13 mar. 1850 in Jackson Co. Mo. He died 29 apr. 1894 in Topeka, Kansas and is buried in Lynden, Osage Co. Kansas.

His father: Samuel Potts ,b.15 may 1789 and died 2 nov. 1847 and is buried in Perryville Ky. Some sources say he came from Va. which could be, or from Penn. Any help from your sources would be GREATLY APPRICIATED.

Great site. My Father is Leland Carrol Potts b. 1927, Grand father is William Jennings Potts b 1907 Lockesburg Arkansas that is about as far as I can go at this time. I am told that we come from the John Potts family that founded Pottstown PA (originally Pottsgrove PA). I was there yesterday and found the museum to be very interesting. I am very interested in filling in the blanks if anyone can help. My father Leland was born in Safford Az and lived in various parts of the country. He was a singer with various big bands in the 1940's beginning when he was in his early teens. My grandfather, Bill played baseball in the St. Louis Cardinals organization in Little Rock Arkansas in the 1920's then went into the oil fields as a rough neck. He traveled all over the country,Ok, Ark, Az, Colorado and Wyoming in the 1950's. I think this one of the best sites around and I am very interested in getting all the information I can on the Potts' family. I had no idea there were so many Potts people out there! The Potts began in my family with Joseph Bevard Potts, my gggrandfather. He wasn't a Scot, he was French. He married my gggrandmother, a Chickasaw Indian, but died in 1862 from an accidental poisoning. I and my family are Native American, so the Potts name has taken an interesting turn. By the way, the is a town in Oklahoma named "Madill" for those of you seeking info on that name.

FYI my Starratt ancestors migrated from Londonderry, Ireland to Boston (1718), New Hampshire, Maine, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Minnesota. Probably a coincidence, but Starratt and Gregg both among the families which founded Londonderry, New Hampshire. Prior to Ireland, my research yields Ayrshire, Scotland as most probably origin for Starratt surname, but I haven't yet traced to there with a person, name, date, event, etc.

Hi Jason, what a fabulous site. My grandfather was Earnest Jarman Potts, born around 1887, came to Australia from England (Macclesfield) with his wife Charlotte Ann Stubbs, and their two children George and Norman. My mother was their third child born in Australia, her name is Olive. All contact was lost with the Potts family at that time. Grandfather was the youngest in a family of 6 boys and 2 girls. The boys were Harry Potts (postal worker Wilmslow), Tom Potts (Bridgewater Canal Officer in Manchester), Arthur Potts (head attendant Parkside Asylum), John Potts (head postal worker Cape Office South Africa), Fred Potts (traveller and detective), and the sisters' names I don't know. Their parents were Thomas Potts and Sarah Jarman Warmsley. Thomas had been a policeman for 26 years. I believe Thomas Potts used to do duty on the walls of Chester Bridge and saw the last public execution there. I don't know any of the wives names, some of them married though, children's names I'm aware of are Harry, Dorothy, Hugh and Phyliss. If anyone has any of theses names appearing in their ancestry list I would love to hear from them. Once again, a great site.

I was fascinated to read of the Lynas who came from Ireland to Australia: I have aslways suspected that my family name comes from the North of Ireland as there as many Lynas's there. However, my own knowledge of family history can only go back to my grandfather, who was a village schoolteacher in North Yorkshire (in the North of England) from around 1908 to 1938. I believe his family came from Hartlepool, and I have always supposed that the generation before that emigrated from Ireland too

My name is Ben Potts, son of Stephen Potts who is the son of Ronald Potts from Birmingham, England. Ron has two brothers, Ray Potts also from Birmingham, and Bill Potts, who is now living in South Wales, UK. My great-grandfather whose name, I think, was Victor Potts, was killed in at the end of the second world war in Italy. This is as far back as our family history goes at the moment, although I would love to find out more. Can anyone out there help me out?

Just got a computer and was surfing the net when I came across "geology". So, I typed in my surname to see what would come up. Besides a lot about Mark O'Meara,the golfer, the Potts Family Tree came up with a number of O'Mearas. Have never been to Ireland and know very little about the O'Mearas there, except that my grandfather was born on Pound St.in Nina(?)Tipperary. I go by the nickname of Mike.
